Mobile Indexing:

The title suggests the meaning. You have a website and it is responsive on mobile. A year back, Google used to index only desktop websites and rank them accordingly. But now, with the number of mobile users growing by the millions every year, it has felt the need to make every website mobile responsive. Even in recent times, it is not a must to have the mobile responsive version. For the rankings in Google, you can load the desktop version. But beware! If your website lacks the mobile version, then it can cause a decline in the rankings. A website with proper desktop and mobile version will receive a higher grade. If you are happy with the present rankings, then you do not have to worry.

Difference:

Half a decade ago, a mobile data of the website was considered an alternate version of the desktop. The desktop version was perfect. It had SEO, proper content, tags and backlinks. The mobile version on the other hand had light content and did not have majority of backlinks.

So what should you do now?:

You need not panic. Google has not specified nor laid its rules that this will be implemented on all websites in the internet. In fact, the change is rolled slowly to websites which Google considers can do the necessary modifications.

Turning a website to a mobile responsive one is not a normal task. You have to ensure the speed of the page on the mobile and prioritize the load time.

For the best mobile site, kindly note down the points:

Mobile Indexing

Content:-

Kindly check and ensure the content on the desktop version is same as the version on your mobile. And that includes the videos, texts and images. The formats used in the second version should be crawlable/indexable.

You should use similar structured data markup on the desktop and mobile versions. Keep the structure simple. Do not complicate the specific content of page.

 Metadata:

Here comes the most important part. Titles/meta-descriptions should be equivalent on both the versions.

The tabs for the social media platforms should be clearly accessible.

Do you have links to site maps in the desktop version? Then ensure they are accessible even in the mobile version.

Google Search Console:

Have you verified the desktop version in Google Search Console? Then, do the same for even the mobile version.

Do you have an app? Have the app indexation set up for the desktop version completed? Then do the similar verification for the mobile version with association to app files.

Conclusion:

At present, kindly note the timeline has not been fixed by Google. And if you do not have a mobile version, then Google will use only the desktop version. If you have numerous ads in your website, and that is causing slow loading of pages in the mobile version, then it is time you address the challenge. In some websites, the content of desktop version will be more whereas in mobiles, the content will be low. Google wants to make both of the versions similar for the customers. And as usual, it is always right.

Let us imagine, you have a well-established washing machine service center in Hyderabad. You do not serve appliances with warranty. But being in the industry for fifteen years, you have the expertise to do any repair of a well known brand. You also have a website. The desktop version is good and you get at least ten calls per day for customer service. But you have not taken any interest in the mobile version as there was no need. But since the update came, although you are not interested in rankings, you got the website mobile responsive. This was for your loyal customers. So, the Google update has definitely brought about a change in the mindset of website owners. Is it not?
